Become a Storyteller

Really want to tell a story in the classroom, but worry that “the younger kids would loose patience and the older kids would think it’s childish?” “The kids don’t even know how to read. We still have to spend time teaching vocabulary and grammar they don’t know.” “We have to design activities when telling stories?” We understand your difficulties.

Storytelling sounds easy, but is really a skill that takes practice to master. This book introduces basic skills on how to choose stories, to use sound, and to make props. It also provides teachers with different ways to tell stories, TPR Storytelling, Readers Theater, and Children’s Yoga. Also, it provides with lesson plans for children of different ages.

“Storytelling Wonderland” helps teachers to think outside the envelope, from different perspectives, so that they can teach and tell stories magically. Teachers can use many different storytelling skills so that children can gain listening, vocabulary, speaking, logic, and organization skills while listening and reading stories and gain reading and writing skills at the same time.

The five stories used for lesson planning in the book were selected from the “Jump for Joy” series picture books. Contents of this series of picture books are fun and meaningful and will most definitely catch children’s attention. The stories have been adapted to fit children’s ages and English vocabulary and grammar levels. “Teaching Demonstration DVD” included with the book has simple steps you can follow to easily become a storyteller.
